The Pacific – Expedition 100

This summer, for one time only, we are doing the impossible: an Expedition through the most remote countries in the Pacific! This is simply, the best way to visit this off the grid region. The Pacific is infamous for it’s nightmare logistics and slow paced days. It’s the last place you want to travel solo to. You’ll have so much fun with your Pacific travel family, getting stranded on a remote atoll won’t sound so bad!

Embark on an extraordinary expedition through 6 Pacific island countries, where each day brings a new adventure and unparalleled beauty awaits. From the pristine shores of beautiful Palau, the historical depths of Micronesia‘s Truk Lagoon, the captivating majesty of the Marshall Islands, the quirk oddities of Nauru, the endangered fleeting culture of Kiribati, and the vibrant diversity of Fiji, this journey promises an unforgettable exploration of diverse cultures, breathtaking landscapes, and the limitless wonders of the Pacific.

itinerary

Day 1: Arrival – Palau
  • Welcome to the Pacific! The expedition starts on 20th July in Palau. We will take a flight together from Taipei and initiate our adventure through the Pacific. Once we land, we will head to Koror and have a welcome dinner before starting our journey through the islands.
  • Overnight: Palau

Day 2: Palau

  • Today we will start exploring Palau, famous for its incredible diving spots. We will experience the unique sensation of snorkeling with the famous Jellyfish Lake. In the afternoon, Palau’s pristine beaches are perfect for relaxing and enjoying the natural beauty of the Pacific.
  • Overnight: Flight

Day 3: Micronesia

  • Flying to Micronesia with a stopover in Guam (US). Today we need to fly during nighttime to arrive early in Chuuk, Micronesia, where we will have the full day to rest or explore. Chuuk, also known as Truk Lagoon, is a captivating destination in Micronesia renowned for its historical significance as a former Japanese naval base during WWII.
  • Overnight: Micronesia

Day 4: Micronesia

  • We’ll explore Truk Lagoon, one of the most famous WWII wreck diving sites in the world (you will have the chance to dive – not included).
  • Overnight: Micronesia

Day 5: Micronesia – Marshall Islands

  • We will take another flight and connect Chuuk with the Marshall Islands with a stopover in Kwajalein. Our final destination will be Majuro Atoll in the evening.
  • Overnight: Majuro (Marshall Islands)

Day 6: Marshall Islands

  • Majuro is the capital and largest city of the Marshall Islands. We will explore Majuro and possibly visit Eneko Island or Arno Atoll, where we will enjoy spectacular sunsets in the middle of the Pacific.
  • Overnight: Majuro (Marshall Islands)

Day 7: Marshall Islands

  • On this day, we’ll continue exploring the Marshall Islands. We’ll have the opportunity to swim, snorkel, or simply relax on the beach, soaking in the tranquil beauty of this idyllic paradise. Majuro is known for its stunning sunsets, offering breathtaking views over the lagoon as the sky ignites in hues of orange and pink.
  • Overnight: Majuro (Marshall Islands)

Day 8: Marshall Islands – Nauru

  • This day we will take a flight to Nauru (the smallest country in the Pacific) with a stopover in Tarawa (Kiribati) – but do not worry – we will come back to Kiribati in the following days too. We expect to arrive in the evening in Nauru and rest.
  • Overnight: Nauru

Day 9: Nauru

  • We will enjoy the island and prove that you can walk around the full country in only one day. We’ll visit locations such as Command Ridge, offering panoramic views of the island and insights into its history, including remnants of World War II.
  • Overnight: Nauru

Day 10: Tarawa – Kiribati

  • Early morning flight to Kiribati, where we will spend almost 3 full days. Kiribati is famous for its rich Polynesian culture and stunning natural beauty, with over 30 atolls and reef islands spread across the central Pacific.
  • Overnight: Kiribati

Day 11: Kiribati

  • We can enjoy activities such as snorkeling and exploring traditional villages, offering a glimpse into a way of life that has remained largely unchanged for centuries.
  • Overnight: Kiribati

Day 12: Kiribati

  • Let’s try to visit one of the many atolls of the country, Abaiang Atoll. We’ll also immerse ourselves in local traditions with a cultural experience, learning about Kiribati’s unique customs, dances, and storytelling.
  • Overnight: Kiribati

Day 13: Fiji

  • Our last flight from Kiribati to Fiji. We will land in Nadi, located on the main island of Viti Levu, which serves as a gateway to the country’s stunning natural landscapes and vibrant culture. Fiji is famous for its stunning natural landscapes, including lush rainforests, cascading waterfalls, and pristine beaches.
  • Overnight: Fiji

Day 14: Fiji

  • The expedition ends after breakfast, and you can stay longer in Fiji. If you are interested in visiting further islands in the Pacific, please let us know as we will work on an Add-On for Tuvalu, Tonga, and Samoa.

We will cover activities on the islands unless otherwise stated. We will charter boats to visit outer atolls outside of the main atolls everyone flies to. When traveling solo, it's expensive to charter a boat alone, but we'll be able to venture out to a side of these island nations that very few people get to. Diving is not included, but whenever we have a chance to do it, we can arrange it for you.

FAQ

We will visit Palau, Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Kiribati, and Fiji, and you will also fly in from Taipei. Please note that due to connecting flights (Guam, US), you will need to be allowed to enter US territory. Many of these countries are Visa free for many nationalites except Nauru that you will need to apply for a Visa (We will support you to get the Nauru Visa). It is also important that you have a Visa or ESTA for entering US territory.
Wander Expedition does not handle flight bookings on your behalf and is not ultimately responsible for your flight connection. However, we can provide guidance and support as you research the best options for your journey. Our Expedition will start taking a flight from Taipei to Palau and it will finish in Fiji (where you can Fly out to Hong Kong, Tokyo (Japan), Hawai (US), Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.
This Expedition is designed for everyone seeking a fun time, an exploration of off-the-beaten-path destinations, the opportunity to make new travel friends, and create unforgettable travel stories. We crafted this itinerary to visit the most remote countries of the Pacific and making it the perfect unique off-the-grid adventure. If you are planning to visit every country, this is the best way to slice the Pacific, a region that has hard logistics and that is hard to do solo!
Wander Expeditions is facilitating the logistics, hotels, and activities in the itinerary. In this expedition, you will be responsible for purchasing the connecting flights between the different countries and islands. We have crafted a detailed itinerary and will provide you with the exact flights that you need to buy.
Connecting the islands in the Pacific can be challenging, but we have been working on the best logistics. We will advise you on the exact flights that you need to buy for the expedition. However, weather conditions can affect the flights, which is why we will ask you to leave a buffer of a few days before leaving Fiji, the last destination, just to make sure any unforeseen circumstances can be accommodated. We have also included a couple of buffer days during the expedition to try to accomodate any disruption. Our plan is to visit all the listed countries and islands on this itinerary, and the expedition will cover 14 days and 13 nights. However, while Wander Expeditions prioritizes visiting every listed Pacific country on the itinerary, please note that flexibility is necessary due to factors like Force Majeure, weather, or flight cancellations.
