itinerary

Day 1: Djibouti

  • We start by taking a short flight from Addis Ababa to Djibouti. Upon arrival, there will be time to venture out to Lac Assal, a crater lake in the Danakil Depression, 150 metres below sea level. It’s a striking collection of landscapes that includes black lava fields, salty flats, and emerald waters. The lake is nestled within a volcanic crater and is surrounded by dramatic scenery. Its high salinity is a notable feature, making it one of the most saline bodies of water in the world — even higher than that of the Dead Sea. In the afternoon, we will drive back to Djibouti City.
  • Overnight: Djibouti City

Day 2: Whale Watching and Boat Cruise

  • Djibouti is well-known for being one of the best places to spot whale sharks in the wild. We will venture out to the Red Sea and try to swim with these magnificent creatures. After the encounter, we’ll have the chance to spend the rest of the day at sea, snorkelling and cruising.
  • Overnight: Djibouti City

Day 3: Djibouti to Mogadishu

  • In the morning, we will take a final walk around the city before flying to Mogadishu. After arrival and security checks, we will enjoy the unique atmosphere of this coastal city.

We will visit the historic Mogadishu Lighthouse and Harbor, an area that played a significant role in the city’s past.  We will have  lunch at a local restaurant, enjoying traditional Somali dishes such as fresh fish, camel meat, and vegetables. After lunch, we will take a guided walk through Hamarweyne Market, where we can experience the vibrant local trade and immerse ourselves in Somali culture. We will take a relaxing walk along the shore at Liido Beach, Our exploration continues with a visit to the Monument to the Unknown Soldier, an important landmark honoring those who fought for Somalia’s independence. The day concludes at Mogadishu’s lively fish market, where we can observe the bustling seafood trade and experience the energy of the local market.
