Pakistan is one of those countries that will shatter all your stereotypes. Full of History, unique ethnic diversity, stunning Himalayan outdoors, warm hospitality and streets full of stories: from snake charming doctors to fire haircuts! May is the perfect time to visit the Karakorum with longer and warmer days, and, as always, with the most fun travel family out there! Please note that we are offering also an optional  ADD-ON for two days to Peshwar (May 26th - 28th 2025). We will provide further information once you book the Expedition.

Itinerary

Day 0: Starting City: Lahore, Pakistan,

  • In Wander Expeditions we want you to make the most of your time, thats why we ask you to arrive the day before, so that the Day 1 in your Expedition is really a full day. We recommend arriving in Lahore on May 18th, the day before the expedition begins.

Day 1: Lahore

  • We start our day visiting the eclectic and culturally rich city of Lahore. From it’s monuments: Badshahi Mosque, Lahore Fort, Wazir Khan Mosque to it’s streets full of stories. In the afternoon, we’ll visit the famous Wagah Border for it’s flag ceremony.
  • Overnight in Lahore

Day 2: Lahore

  • We’ll explore the street doctors, snake enchanters, and of course, the infamous fire hairdressers. In the evening, we’ll travel from Lahore to Islamabad.
  • Overnight in Islamabad.

Day 3: Fairy Meadows

  • Early in the morning we’ll be flying to Gilgit or Skardu, in the Himalayan Karakorum. After arriving in Gilgit we will head straight to Fairy Meadows. We’ll need to take 4WD through a gnarly road to get there, and then hike for around 3h. In Fairy Meadows, we’ll already have a view of the gorgeous Nanga Parbat, towering over 8125m.
  • Overnight in Fairy Meadows.

Day 4: Nanga Parbat Base Camp

  • We’ll wake up for sunrise and hike to the Base Camp of Nanga Parbat for closer views of this 8000m peak. Certainly, one of the highlights of our Expedition. After this incredible experience, we’ll journey to the stunning Hunza Valley, where our journey continues.
  • Overnight in Hunza.

Day 5: Hunza Valley

  • After breakfast we’ll visit Baltit and Altit Fort (over 950 years old). We’ll mesmerize with the best views of Hunza Valley in Eagles Nest. After visiting we’ll have free time to visit Hunza’s market for some shopping or aimless exploration.
  • Overnight in Hunza.

Day 6: Hoper Glacier, Hussaini Suspension Bridge and Atabad Lake

  • After breakfast we drive to Passu Glacier and the famous Hussaini hanging bridge. The dangling view of the Himalayan riverbed below your feet is a scary experience you’ll hardly forget! We’ll head towards Hoper Valley in Nagar District, stopping at various picturesque spots along the way to the magnificent Hoper Glacier. From there, we’ll head to Atabad Lake and drive back to Gilgit or Skardu.
  • Overnight in Gilgit or Skardu based on the prevailing weather conditions.

Day 7: Fly to Islamabad

  • We depart for Islamabad by domestic Flight. After landing we will be visiting Faisal Mosque and then go to Margalla Hills for lunch at the Hill top restaurant, an excellent place to feast with music and enjoy the view.
  • Overnight in Islamabad

Day 8: Departure

  • It's the saddest moment of any expedition: saying goodbye!
  • Alternatively, you can choose to continue with our optional ADD-ON for two days to Peshawar (May 24th -26 th, 2025). We will provide further information once you book the expedition.

Absolutely unforgettable. Traveling through Central America was so much more than a trip. It was an experience built around connection and shared adventure. From volcano hikes to pyramid sunrises, every destination was stunning, but what truly made it special was the group I shared it with. I’ve come home with a head full of memories, several crazy stories, and a few friends for life.

The best introduction to this part of the world. West Africa is sometimes called "Africa for beginners". I can see it. Mostly laid back, beautiful coast, incredible sightseeing and smiley locals. Add in the mix the Vodun culture, the colourful dances and thrilling rituals and you have an adventure to remember. Benin has quickly rose to being one of my favourite countries and the expedition family some of my favourite people.

History, history, history! Wow, is all I can say. Libya's recent history has created an isolation from tourism, and made this a relatively untouched Mediterranean gem. The Roman and Phoenician ruins are just mind-blowing. The trip out to the Algerian-Libyan border of The Sahara Desert is long, but well worth it to see Ghadames. Definitely say, "Yes"!

What a hilarious group of explorers who made the long drives fun! The guys were great dancers, too, when faced with rejection by the local females at the bar/dance hall, they had no problem dancing with themselves! Music, song and "car dancing" kept the mood going the whole time. Views were outstanding in The Pamir region.

I really cherish the people I met on my 1st "YES", I said to Afghanistan. It was a small group of very empathetic and adventurous people. We were all nervous at first, until we settled into the pace of our Expedition led by Elena. The people, the lead, the guide and drivers, and the shop keepers were so welcoming and professional. Kindest and most generous people I've met in recent years. I highly recommend everyone visit Afghanistan.
