itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in N’djamena (Chad) – Gaoui
- We will start in the afternoon travelling to Gaoui, which was once the capital of the Sao civilization. Here, we will visit the former palace of the Sultan of Gaoui and explore one of the finest examples of mud-built architecture.
Day 2: N’djamena Gerewol site (Dourbali area)
- On this day, we will drive across the Sahel to the Dourbali region, where the Gerewol festival is celebrated by the Wodaabe people. We will witness the Wodaabe preparing for their celebrations. As night falls, the community will gather for a long night of singing, dancing, and courtship rituals. We’ll camp here overnight.
Day 3: Gerewol
- Today, the Gerewol festivities will continue, and we will spend the day immersing ourselves in the festival – a celebration which has barely changed for centuries. There will also be plenty of time to meet local people.
Day 4: Gerewol – N’djamena and city tour
- After breakfast, we will spend our final morning with the Wodaabe people. Then, we will return to N’Djamena for a city tour.
Day 5: Douguia – Elephant rock
- We will visit the charming village of Douguia. Sitting along the Chari River, this traditional fishing village is dotted with beige mud houses that form narrow alleys. Douguia offers an authentic glimpse into the daily lives of Chadian villagers, yet with a greater extent of comfort and modern amenities. We’ll also visit the nearby awe-inspiring Elephant Rock, known locally as Hadjer Lamis.
Day 6: Fly to Bangui (Central Africa Reublic)
- Today we fly to Bangui and will be transferred to the hotel. Later in the evening, embark on a tour of Bangui, exploring the capital city of the Central African Republic.
Day 7: Boali Waterfalls
- After breakfast, set off for Boali Falls. Explore Boali town and interacting with the local community, before returning to Bangui for an overnight stay.
Day 8: Bangui City Tour and Fly out
- On the last day, we’ll explore Bangui in the morning and finally marking the conclusion of our Expedition.
