This summer, embark on an adventure to explore the wonders of Mongolia with the best travel family possible.

This expedition, we will attend the Danshig Naadam Festival and visit the vast dunes of the Gobi Desert, along with all the unique national parks surrounding this region. The Danshig Naadam Festival is a Buddhist religious festival of Mongolia that you cannot miss. Then, while visiting the famous Gobi Desert, each day brings a new experience with nomadic families and breathtaking landscapes. With a carefully planned itinerary, this expedition promises an unforgettable journey for those seeking an off-the-beaten-path adventure filled with cultural immersion and awe-inspiring natural wonders!

itinerary

Day 0: Arrival – Ulaanbaatar

  • Welcome to Mongolia! The Expedition starts on August 3rd from Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. Our first day is usually full, beginning early in the morning. Therefore, plan to arrive in Ulaanbaatar on August 2nd. Take this day to rest and acclimate to the unique surroundings, absorbing the vibrant culture and local charm.

Day 1: Danshig Naadam festival

  • We will start early in the morning by visiting the Gandan Buddhist Monastery, and then we will head to the Hui Doloon Khudag Naadam Festival field. You will spend the whole day seeing the Naadam events and sports, including the religious ceremonies, religious Tsam Dance, the Naadam Festival opening, horse racing, wrestling, horse archery, and knuckle bone shooting.
  • Overnight: Ulaanbaatar

Day 2: Tsagaan Suvarga (Gobi)

  • We will start with a long drive to the Tsagaan Suvargacliffs in the Gobi desert. The area is one of the most famous attractions in the Gobi Desert, where all visitors wish their pictures taken among this colorful natural formation. Hiking down and up along the trails of the stupa-shaped colorful cliffs takes 1 to 1.5 hours.
  • Overnight: Nomadic family yurt.

Day 3:  Eagle valley.

  • The Gobi Gurban SaikhanMountain is a beautiful national park, rich in wildlife and scenic places. Among them, Yoliin Am/Bearded Eagle Valley is one of the picturesque valleys. We will walk (2-3 hours) through the resplendent valley into the depths of a sheer rock canyon, which accepts no sunlight. Bearded Eagles, elusive wild sheep, and ibexes are indigenous to the valley.

Day 4: Khongor Sand Dunes-Camel riding.

  • Our Expedition will continue to Khongor, part of the Gobi Gurban Saikhan National Park. After reaching the sand dunes, you will hike along the green stream shore, climb sand dunes, visit a nomad family and ride two-humped camels. If you can climb one of the tallest sand dunes, spread the sand northwards against the wind to find out why locals call the sand dunes “Singing Sand.” 
  • Overnight: Ger guesthouse at Terelj NP

Day 5: Flaming Cliff

  • The journey continues to the Flaming Cliffs, where American explorer Roy Chapman Andrews found the remains of dinosaurs, including the first dinosaur eggs ever discovered on earth. The cliffs are picturesque and photogenic at sunset.

Day 6: Day Baga Gazriin chuluu

  • Today we will drive to Baga Gazariin Chuluu, a zone of granite stone mountains. It has been keeping some historical remains such as ruin of a monastery, ancient tombs, etc. Challenge your imagination seeing unique features of the granite formations in Baga Gazariin Chuluu, discover ruin of the old monastery and captured by the emptiness of the Gobi.
  • Overnight: Tourist ger camps

Day 7: Terelj NP and Genghis Khan Statue

  • We will drive towards Terelj National Park and the Genghis Khan Statue, the biggest stainless steel statue of Genghis Khan sitting atop his horse.

Day 8: Fly Out

  • It’s the saddest moment on any Expedition: we say goodbye until the next time we see each other!
