When we announced West Africa V would be the last WA as we knew it, and we weren’t lying. The last WA launch was in November 2023. A lot of months, where we gathered our know-how from these 5 previous expeditions and got to work with one job: perfect our best-seller.
Here it is: West Africa VI. We stripped all the fat and left the best meat, the West African overland fuckery you all love. From Bissau to Monrovia, with a chance to add-on 2 days of Ivory Coast conveniently with a direct flight. We’ve also slimmed our group size and saved you a few days of painful driving. As always, we’re pairing it with another infamous hit: Ghana Togo and Benin. Those who apply to both have a higher chance of getting selected.

itinerary
Day 1: Arrival day
- Today, February 25th, we arrive in Bissau. We recommend you land with the TAP flight around noon and make your way to the Hotel to check-in and rest. This night’s accommodation is included. In the afternoon, we can explore the capital and go for our first dinner together.
- Alternatively, you can choose to overland independently to Bissau and arrive during the course of the day, as long as you check-in on time for dinner with the group.
- Overnight in Bissau
Day 2: Bissau to Gabu
- Our West African overland adventure starts strong: Potholed muddy roads crossing jungles and villages. Slow, but steadily, we will overcome all the challenges and make it as far as possible: Gabu.
- On the way, we will pass Bafata, an old colonial keystone that still holds most of it’s colonial architecture intact.
- We’ll sleep in Gabu, in the middle of nowhere, and toast for the fuckery behind us and the one yet to come.
Day 3: Gabu to Labe.
- Today we’ll be crossing the border into Guinea. Another great thing about this journey is that we will compare each country’s colonial past as well as their differences and similarities.
- Labe is Fouta country, so we’ll have a chance to meet them in the nearby villages on our way East.
- This is the toughest road day, but also the most scenic.
- Overnight in Labe.
Day 4: Labe to Kindia. (Kambadaga Falls).
- Guinea is the most underrated gem of our itinerary, and the region of Fouta Djallon is it’s highlight. We will hike it’s lush highlands on the search of the impressive Kambadaga waterfalls
- Overnight in Kindia.
Day 5: Kindia to Freetown.
- Straight shot to Freetown with hopefully no hiccups when crossing one of the trickiest borders on our schedule: Guinea – Sierra Leone.
- The new paved road has made things much easier in terms of drive time so we will arrive in Freetown in time for sunset and a good meal after the 3 hardest days of our journey.
- Overnight in Freetown.
Day 6: Freetown.
- On this day, we will explore the beautiful Sierra Leonean capital of course. We will visit the markets in the morning, the slums, the chimp sanctuary and head to the beach in the afternoon.
- Overnight in Freetown.
Day 7: Freetown to Monrovia.
- The Sierra Leone – Liberia border is 50% epic & 50% horrible. Let’s hope for good luck! This day will be a masterclass in overlanding, get your notebooks ready.
- Overnight in Monrovia.
Day 8: Monrovia.
- Easily the most interesting city to visit in West Africa. The abandoned Ducor Hotel, the West Point slums, the unique American flavor, and the incredible beaches.
- A day to wander, slow down and take it all in.
- Overnight in Monrovia.
Day 9: Fly out
- Expedition ends after breakfast and you can fly out, or explore Ivory Coast with our 2 day Add-on (We will offer at a later stage information about this), and continue to our infamous Ghana, Togo & Benin Expedition.

HOW DO I GET A VISA FOR THESE 5 COUNTRIES?
These 5 countries have straightforward visas for most nationalities. Either on arrival, eVisa or we can help you arrange them via our local fixers. We’ll support your eVisa applications with our detailed brief after 5 successful WA Expeditions.
– Guinea Bissau. VOA 50€
– Guinea: eVisa 70€
– Sierra Leone: eVisa 70€
– Liberia: 230€ (via fixer) or Embassy.
– Ivory Coast (addon): evisa 80€.
These prices are tentative, it may vary a bit last minute.

You can fly or overland to Bissau, and fly out of Monrovia or continue with our add-on to Ivory Coast for 2 extra days.
